"Yeah, it's not the favorite subject for the Chamber of Commerce"

One time when the schools were pushed onto Galveston Beach, The Galveston Daily Snooze printed an article which mentioned it and that people just might want to consider staying out of the water because of sharks. Man, you could hear anuerisms popping all over town. Now most of the tourists come from Houston on a day trip, so the odds of them actually picking up a paper for anything but replacing a foam cooler top that blew away is pretty close to zero. But many of the local merchants acted as if the paper was trying to run them out of business...

"when a half dozen hammerheads swim by your legs."

Hammerheads, despite their reputation, don't bother people very often. Now the sand sharks, they are another story. Still, despite that knowledge, it usually isn't worth washing your shorts afterwards. Just throw them away...

Yeah, it's not the favorite subject for the Chamber of Commerce. On the radio the other day they said that the chance of getting attacked by a shark are less than getting struck by lightening. I couldn't help but think "yeah, unless you are in the ocean or gulf, then the odds of the shark thing go way up".

That's why people like you aren't on the Chamber. <g>

I've been about a mile out in the gulf, standing on a submerged sandbar about a city block distance from the anchored boat, knee deep in 88 degree water, drinking a cold beer, when a half dozen hammerheads swim by your legs.

Now why would you do that?

Interesting feeling of intense fear and resignation... nothing to do but pop another cold one and enjoy the sunshine.

Reminds me of living in this country under the Bush administration.

Well, aren't the shark attacks, Jeb's fault?
