OK, we're making progress.

There are two sides at work in Iraq. The first is the insurgency (probably mostly Bathists) that plant the roadside bombs that kill our troops. You said --- "The answer is that an armed insurrection would be completely justified in my mind if I was an Iraqi who saw my son senselessly murdered by an American soldier." So those guys are OK killing our troops, in your mind.

re: However, if my fellow Iraqis started killing Iraqis, I'd think that it was immoral. I think I read somewhere that in the last few months 8,000 Iraqis had been killed. Almost all of them were killed by Muslim suicide bombers.

The second part, the suicide bombers, it appears to me from what I read, are mostly outsiders, mostly Saudis. They are working under Zarqawi, and they target the new Iraqi police and military (because our guys are too hard to hit). And they hit a lot of civilians in the process. It's may be fair to say they are terrorists, not insurgents. Though their motivation is certainly a defense of Islam and Arab land. These guys are not OK in your mind.

So the guys killing our troops are good guys; the guys killing Iraqi's are bad guys.

If it's this confusing to you, and to me, imagine what it's like for our troops, that have to carry out this "policy". It's a mind fuck circle jerk of bad guys and good guys, with no logical end.

We never should have gone in... we need to get out ASAP. It's their country, self determination, let them figure it out.
