First and foremost Cheney wanted to control the oil to enrich himself.
Didn't Cheney get 30-40 million when he retired from Haliburton? How much more did he need? He knows he has a bad ticker, how was he gonna spend the 30 million?
Your post makes no sense

If you believe that, then why don't you believe that it is our responsibility to try to make that right?

I, for one, don't think that the neocons started the war to make things right in the middle east. First and foremost Cheney wanted to control the oil to enrich himself. There were some second and third tier reasons for the war but the promotion of democracy was way-way down the list. There is no reason to stay and fight and die just so that oil companies have some obligations to the Bush cartel.

Oh my God..........you shouldn't say such stuff. The State Dep't may be reading and they believe saint Bush only wants to do good in the world. They won't look kindly on you suggesting that its all about the oil. How base.......how crude.......how typically GOP.

Honestly, who cares what the neocons think. One thing I think most of us can agree on is that the neocons have a dangerous far right ideology and we have to vote them out of power in the very next election.

I was more curious what the left of center folks on this thread thought the answers were.

If I thought all we were fighting for is oil, I'd be lining up right behind you in saying we need to get our people out of their asap. But I believe that some of the neocon agenda can have very positive long term benefits. Democracy in Iraq, for whatever reasons good or bad that the neocons want it, is still a very big and good thing.
