what I saw was Azner leading, then an Islamofascist bombing of a Spanish train, then a sudden victory of the guys who wanted to quit and go home

Then you missed quite a bit that happened in between.

The actual course of events was:

(1) Aznar (note the correct spelling) leading
(2) Madrid terrorist attacks
(3) AZNAR LYING ABOUT THE EVIDENCE AND INSISTING IT WAS ETA WHO DID THE ATTACKS.
(4) AZNAR'S LIES OUTED BY POLICE & OTHERS UNVEILING EVIDENCE
(5) Aznar losing lead and other guys winning the elections.

Now YOU can spin that all you want. But as any reputable Spanish news outlet will tell you that YOUR story is not correct. Sorry, but this conviction of yours re Spain is like the proverbial anti-American Arab's firm views on what goes on in the US, although he's never been there and does not bother to check with US sources.

May I point out that Blair and the British have NOT said they will pull out

You talking about these guys?

"UK plans to slash Iraq force over the next year
Memo gives timetable for pullout of most British and US troops."

Is your story that, had Azner said right at the start it was al Qaeda, he would have won and Spain would still have troops in Iraq? Yes? No?

If you are asking for my opinion, I would speculate so, yes. Nations tend to rally around their leader when under attack, and especially around those they see as "firm" against the enemy. That is Aznar.

Here's another point of view just as valid:

Everybody has a view. Some are closer to reality.
