Thats weird ... most people only know Bernanke from commentators making fun of his helicopter comment.

Most real economists I know think Bernanke would be fine as FED Chair.

Dr. DeLong was very positive about him for CEA:

"Helicopter statement ... is a big red herring. Nobody knows theory/data better [than Bernanke]."

"I would be pleased with Bernanke."

That is two top economists (DeLong and Thoma) that think Bernanke would be fine.

Exactly. Just look at how much Greenspan has changed from his published works in private life and his first couple of terms as fed chairman.
