Is this really evil, or some sort of serious mental illness compounded by what I believe will probably come out eventually--that the killer of the Groene family was seriously abused himself as a child? I am not excusing his actions, incidentally. the crimes were horrific and sickening. I am just noting that children who are treated brutally often grow up to be brutal themselves, and that early intervention with children at risk benefits the entire society.
