AS, Kerry's approach to Iraq was measured and smart.

Taking both sides of the issue isn't "measured and smart." It's actually pretty dumb and would have been a lot worse than what Bush got us into.

The Vietnam war didn't fail at all on the field. Nixon dragged those intermediate losers to the negotiation table to settle for what he correctly called an "honourable peace settlement" and prepared his way for a decent exit. The terms of said peace were clear but next ignored by the North Viets, who rapidly found out they could get away with that. No secret they discovered they could successfully do so because the US had no stamina to defend the terms of the peace settlement.

Still, however, it took the North Viets a full two years to reestablish their army forces and rebuild the Hoh Chi Minh strait to move their forces down to the south through Cambodia to eventually attack the South Vietnam army in the flanks.

Nixon actually succeeded quite well in bombing those commies " back to the stone ages" but the lack of follow up support from the US congress caused by the the liberal US press lobby, unamerican as usual - little has changed here - paved the way for the North Vietnam counter attack and layed the way open for their eventual "victory". It could all have been avoided.

All of this is the very deja vu background for what is going on in Iraq right now. The animals down there have this vision, that if only they hang in there long enough, those Norte Americanos softies will eventually give in. Give in by force of the liberal lobby as represented by the media. Like British pre Churchill hero Chamberlain and his successful ordeal...
