Let us try again with my post to your non responsive post: “”So are the rules against rape, genocide, adultery, etc. ABSOLUTE over time? Or do they change at the whim of God from time to time, from Testament to Testament? " Apparently God was following a Lebensraum policy Deuteronomy 7:1 When the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast out many nations before thee, the Hittites and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou; 7:2 And when the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them; nor shew mercy unto them. Ezekiel 9:6 Slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women: but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at my sanctuary. Then they began at the ancient men which were before the house. 1 Samuel 15:3 Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass. Now…substitute the name of Hitler for “LORD” and “God”. Immediately one is repulsed and recognizes something terribly immoral and primitive. Or one COULD do a greg or e and say…it is just an anachronistic cultural norm, Dumb Ass! LOL!So the question again for you to evade is simply this. Are moral ideas such as genocide, rape, adultery, etc. dependent on context and culture--and the whim of God to change from time to time? In other words are they relative? Or are they independent of these things and EVIL because they are EVIL? If slavery is not Absolutely immoral, but moral from time to time--then one must acknowledge that it was a relative evil and not an Absolute evil. Is the requirement to kill a woman who marries if she is not a virgin an Absolute good? Or is it context and culturally dependent? If you state that God no longer considers it good, then you are holding that these moral values were NOT Absolute. If these atrocities are GOOD in certain contexts…then in which context are the acts of Hitler and Dahmler “GOOD”?? This tribal God is no different than the THOUSANDS of other Gods. He is genocidal and jealous; He is vicious and brutal; He supports sacrifice of first borns as a price for His support. If He was an Aztec God or a Mayan we would be horrified by his demands and revolted by His cruelty. ”As for the specific passage you mention Numbers 31: I see no mention at all of rape. If they took the young woman, they married them” Don’t be so bloody ignorant. Firstly, they were the “women children”. They put all the other children to death and in front of these children (who were kept as sexual pleasures for their own use) they butchered their parents and little brothers. They required to “test” each little one to determine if she had been previously raped or otherwise was non virginal…and if she HAD lain with man, she too would be butchered. Can you imagine the slaughter as these little ones were butchered??”
