"1.When faced with protests we can recognize the claim and accede to the proposed change or 2. compromise with the protester to find something mutually acceptable and achieve peace or truce. We can 3. disabuse the protester of his claim. Or we can 4. brush him off and accept whatever consequences we can't mitigate. "

Those 4 options cover a tremendous amount of territory. When faced with any problems do you ever have much more latitude than the above? At least if you understand the grievances and the reason for the protest, 1-4 become much easier to discuss, and one can understand, with less possibility of error, the likelihood of 3, and the ramifications of 4. IMO, of course. That's all we have here, opinion.

I'll tell you one thing that is a fact, it would never have occurred to me before today that anyone would argue that violent political protest was not political protest, and that certain terrorist activities were not political protest, simply because they were terrorist acts. It would never have occurred to many that anyone would think that- so for that eye opener I'm grateful. It's always interesting to see a totally new perspective.
