all right....

based on your comments, i will take a closer look at the French open...

as for the prima donas...

i should define what i understand as prima donna...

in soccer for example, there are some prima donna attitudes out there, particularly with strikers who will not tke risks (unnecessary in their eyes) and will take every opportunity to make the least possible effort as they perform...

it is their HIGH degree of skill that allows them to do so...

in other words, you can be a great player, and still be a prima donna... (as my perception of tennis players is)

but ok... i will give them another look

my perception is also colored by the fact that my brother in law used to be a really good tennis player.... and oh well... the man was (is ?) a prima donna... intolerable

I played on clay courts in the WTA satellite circuit longer ago than I care to disclose :) They are brutal endurance wise because it's so hard to put someone away by overpowering them but I much preferred them to faster hardcourts and grass . . . forget it. The Venus Williams' of the world have less of an advantage over us smaller girls on a clay court since the softness of the surface absorbs so much of the momentum. Back when I was playing, the strategy was to "moonball" on those courts. The matches took forever and had to be boring to watch.

P.S. Chris was pretty reserved to everyone. But damn, she was good. She was my heroine as a player.
