I would rather accept kholt's definition in order to facilitate discussion and move on, than get upset because people don't like mine.

Sometimes these discussions digress into useless semantic arguments. But sometimes people complain about what they consider merely niggling over words when the discussion is actually about substantive ideas.

In this part of the universe we have ideas and we give labels, like "terrorism," to those ideas so that we can communicate in shorthand about them. If we can't communicate easily in shorthand using the word for that idea, that means that the idea is not firmly settled so we hash over the idea. It saddens me when folks dismiss such discussions as merely semantic.

Not suggesting that's what you were doing. It's just something that's been on my mind and your and CR's comments reminded me of it so I unloaded...
