bin Laden's issue is our bases in the middle east. Not something you read about in US news - because it's not something we want to hear.

Their main issue is to not live in the current nation-state system set up in the 20th century, but to live in one huge Islamic region where they have absolute sharia law and there is one religious mufti that is in charge of and leads the region. It means all the current political regimes in all the Muslim countries have to go, all the Muslim countries have to unite into one "country", and off you go.

Two fallouts from that vision is that Israel also has to go and foreign military of course have to leave. But the primary driver of the Al Qaeda view is in the first paragraph, the points in the 2nd paragraph are just derivative results of the primary driver.
