But that's not even close to addressing the structural needs of the poor.

John,
Thanks.

For a moment there I thought that you thought that the plight of America's poor is Trump's fault and responsibility.

Since the feds decided one way to make up for the tax cuts was to cut support for state governments and since the state governments (NJ) decided one way to make up for the fed tax cuts was to provide less support for local governments, the increase in our property taxes more than made up for the minimal tax cut.

Are you sure it isn't just NJ beating you up?
Idaho state tax rate stayed the same.
Idaho state sales tax just DROPPED 1% to a very reasonable 5% on July 1.
Our property taxes increased a very reasonable 2% last year...that may increase to 3% this year... again very reasonable. And our average county home value increase for the past 12 months was just reported to be up 27%.

Since your taxes are likely close to 50%. You should deduct 50% of your pension COLA increase from any tax increase before determining if it is a real increase.

If you want to escape from excessive taxation and keep more of your money, you should consider doing what the Pilgrims did and move to America.
