I agree with you that Public Libraries are an important element of a community, but I also have to admit they are not so important as they were in my youth. In my day, that was ALL WE HAD and I myself used them extensively. Today, one has the Computer and the internet, (which for me has replaced Libraries as my research tool), a variety of T/V information channels, particularly if one has cable, which most do today, and finally school libraries at least around here are far more expanded then we ever had. jdn

Basic or indispensable; necessary

A library does not meet that meaning. Food, clear water and shelter are essential. A library is about the quality of life, not essential to life.
