Are you saying that if the cell does not cooperate the organism will die and with the future generations of the cell? Yes, although it doesn't even need to be so dramatic. There is bound to be variation in cells, so a little selfishness would not be noticed. If however, it were selfish to the point that it put the organism in a disadvantage, then over time the organisms carrying that DNA will die out and not have children to carry the gene that coded for that selfish behavior.
