My entire point about the Chinese is simply to point out that ideological views of economic systems are not necessarily correct. For decades here in the west when we were comparing our system to communism, the contrast was very marked. Many drew the conclusion that centrally planned nondemocratic systems were doomed to failure. Well, not necessarily so as the Chinese have shown. More to the point, the Asian countries in general including Japan were more centrally planned, while both Taiwan & S. Korea grew substantially while not being democratic. It pays to keep an open mind.

Please don't confuse this with thinking I want central planning or an undemocratic state!
