My point is that in many areas of our language, a label that has one meaning, such as the result of an action is good or bad, kind or cruel, comes to imply an understanding of what motivates the action, when in fact it provides no or very little understanding of the motivation, and often leads one to stop exploring the question. So no progress is made in potentially solving the issue.

We are seeing just such an example at play in current issues. Since 9/11, the dominant US response to Islamic terrorism has been to label it Evil, and state that we will destroy it. Within the last couple of months various statements have started to emerge from both the Pentagon & the administration, admitting that there is in fact some method and goals in the terrorists madness, and that the WOT should adapt to deal with those issue. Others have made that distinction from the beginning. One tends to get further when one digs deeper than a label.
