<smile>... >>self serving politician I have ever observed<<
You could say that about all politicians... anywhere...!!!

But isn't it particularly true of europeans attached to the elite and aristocratic circles....?

Just read an article about a town in Crete called Agios Nicholas... which I will be visiting later this year...

The locals have seen their tourist trade turned upside down by the Euro.
They are no longer seeing the the high numbers of tourists and this coincides with the implimentation of the euro. They're no longer a cheap place to visit... and it's because of the Euro which allows the out of country hotel owners to parity rooms with the Euro all over the ECU like Paris... not the old Greek exchange rate. They're pissed... and I expect one would find this in many other parts of europe engaged with the euro.

This reflects one of my basic points on the ECU -- Euro -- and consolidation of financial control.

I use to visit a hotel in the Algrave of Portugal that has changed it's boarding costs to reflect the rest of europe costs... isn't worth going there anymore.
