but no rights were taken away, you are free to break the law, drive fast, go through red lights but hopefully you get caught each time when you take liberties that endanger others and with fines , loss of license , jail. maybe years of getting caught breaking the law will change their behavior.

It is hard to go from that to "give me safety and a little less liberty".

How is your liberty impaired by having a CC video camera in Time's Square or Dupont Circle? They are public places, and there can be no expecation of privacy in such places.
