I agree with some of what you said about the situation in the ME, but you can't classify Friedman as someone who doesn't know what he is talking about. He has spent his entire career as a journalist working in the ME. He has 30+ years of experience covering Lebanon, Syria, Israel, Palestine, and every other country in that region. I would bet he has more experience and knowledge about the interworkings of those countries and the minds of the Arabs and Israelis over there than anyone on this thread.

Probably so......and probably during those 30+ years he's hoped for positive change in that part of the world. Now he thinks he's seeing it. However, I believe he's like the gardener tending a dying plant......he sees positives where there are none or that the positives he sees are not enough to do the trick.

Don't forget I also don't think the vision that you and Friedman are experiencing is worth the great cost to Americans it will take to make it happen. If your vision is the correct one, it will take at least ten years and lots of money to make Iraq a stable democracy. I think the cost is too much for Americans to bear.
