I'm sure there were many people who thought fighting Hitler wasn't worth the cost in lives and money too. But it turns out that it directly lead to the Democratization and alliance with America of the countries involved in that war (Germany, Italy, and Japan) and America becoming the world's only superpower and the wealthiest nation on earth. The long term dividends were worth taking Hitler on. The long term dividends will be worth bringing Democracy to the Middle East. You just can't see it now, because your thinking is way too short term.
