And even then they might not be used.

I had my credit card number stolen years ago and the perp ran up $12,000 worth of car goodies, lunches and jewelry in one weekend. I did some detective work and found out the jeweler had a video of the exchange. The manager told me they recycle the tapes every seven days. When I called my contact at the FBI and told him what I found out he was less than enthusiastic. His words........"we'll see if we have time to look at them."

I don't necessarily think that behind every security camera is an individual that cares about any alleged crime.
