We should probably consider the fact that creationism vs. Intelligent Design vs. evolution is framed within the context of Christianity -- but Christianity isn't the only religion in the US.

I mentioned other creation myths tongue-in-cheek but at bottom I am actually serious about this.

ID is a religious debate within the Christian community. What do Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims, etc., think?

Shouldn't they have a say?

Or shouldn't this all be excluded from Mrs. Smith's high school biology class? (Except for the kids who go to religious schools?)

There probably aren't too many Hindus and Buddhists and Muslims in Kansas, but there certainly are in NoVa.

These two groups might well team up and ignore their diferences in order to get ID into the schools given that creationism can't pass muster, but I think there's an inherent internal fracture

That's exactly what has happened with ID. I had a good journal article on the subject, but I left it on my intern computer, so it's gone. If you do a search on the history of ID, it'll probably turn up. It's an alliance of creationists of all stripes to get creationism into schools.

The Supreme Court will almost certainly knock it down. Edwards v. Aguillard was pretty clear here. Religion is religion, whether it's couched as philosophy or science, and violates the Establishment Clause. They haven't won a court battle since the Skopes trial, and the TN Supreme Court was so embarrassed they vacated the fine.
