RE:"If illegals were that bad, California would be bankrupt ten years ago. Or were not those illegals that made California the fifth economy in the world?"

California was a powerhouse 30-40 years ago. What does this have to do with illegal immigration?

Few people are against "legal" immigration. Better controls and law changes are needed.

If you don't believe it costs California $7,500 per student in Elementary through High School, you'll never believe that George W. Bush spent $15,400 per student when he was Governor of Texas.

In spite of spending more than twice as much as California, Texas students achieve less and test lower than students in California. I suspect Texas would have been far better off without the "assistance" of George W. Bush "the Education Governor".

It costs the State of California more than $7,500 a year to keep a student in school.>> I dont trust government figres but let say it is

Just got a new hand of 5 posts dealt to me. I'll spend one more here.

<<If illegals were that bad, California would be bankrupt ten years ago.>>

The state IS bankrupt. Hellooooo.

<<Or were not those illegals that made California the fifth economy in the world?>>

Credit where credit is due...I suspect native-born and legal immigrants may have had a slight role in this. Not much perhaps but something.

<<How many schools would have been closed down if there were not a constant stream of illegals kids?>>

Why are you making my point. I agree that without illegals a lot of schools would have been shut down, saving hundreds of millions of dollars. And if you had any kids in some of these schools, you'd probably be happy if they shut them down today. California used to be #1 in the nation for education. Today its a pathetic broken system that limps along, spending a good portion of its time trying to communicate with people who speak up to 26 languages....which doesn't include English. Believe it - my wife was a teacher.

As for the stats, they come from the California Dept of Education. You can make up your own numbers if you like, just as Arun did (SURPRISE! My calculations fit my theory exactly!), but if anything the numbers are gross understatements.

You have deemed yourself smarter than the Swiss, the Australians, the French, then all of the the Europeans, and probably just about every country in the world, since illegal immigration isn't really ignored to the extent that it is here, and in most cases is actively discouraged. Congratulations - this must reflect your California education.

p.s. I REALLY resent that remark about working for the govt! Puh-leez! I make an honest living. Never worked for the govt and am ashamed at times that my teacher-wife does.

The Center for Immigration Studies is an independent, non-partisan, non-profit research organization founded in 1985. It is the nation's only think tank devoted exclusively to research and policy analysis of the economic, social, demographic, fiscal, and other impacts of immigration on the United States.

"How many schools would have been closed down if there were not a constant stream of illegals kids? Ask this question to the education nomenclatura in California."

Might not be a bad idea. There's no correlation between the size of the school budget and the quality that it produces. If anything, it would improve the teacher-student ratio.
