The low government debt in Australia is entirely due to the efforts by the Australian Labor Party to block John Howard's lunatic attempts to Ronald Reaganize the tax structure and blow out the Federal budget. In this respect, Australians dodged a bullet.

If the Liberal Party had their way Australia would be running larger deficits, relative to GDP, than America does under Bush.

Even though the Liberal Party has been prevented from creating a complete disaster, the public appetite for the Liberal Party is waning almost as quick as their tolerance for John Howard's big spending, palatial Kirribilli House lifestyle, at public expense.
