That seems accurate to me, but it is also widely used in th pejorative sense to imply a wooden literalism that certainly very few if any Conservative Christians actually adhere to. The bible should be interpreted in light of the authors intended purpose, making room for figurative use of language, idioms and metaphor which are readily apparent when a passage is read in context.
