Are you old enough to remember Marva Collins? Why has the teaching industry not adopted and refined her methods?

Oh, I'm definitely old enough to remember most everyone. Save the one's I forget. The name sounds familiar. Was she one of the "rote memory" education types?

I'm not a defender of the "teaching industry" as you put it but, as one rather blunt, rather misled, rather prominent celebrity of note said, it's the army we got.

My criticisms are not that those of the "test first, second and third" crowd, which inspires only rote learning and is not education.

That is a matter for the discovery process of competition, not fiat. Seems we have a Commission for everything, maybe even breathing. Maybe a Commission headed by folks like Volker, Gates, some well respected teachers who have also experience in business, etc....

It would be most interesting to see what such a Commission would come up with. Can't imagine what useful purpose the Unions serve anymore. Administrators and teachers can and should stand on their own feet regarding the "product" they produce.
