Haqi, the early DSL implementations were very flaky. Obviously, you did not experience that. You are lucky. When the fiber deployment is done in your neighborhood, let us know if the telco charges you more for your connection. Thanks.

The main east-west switching station is still here. I tried to get Verison DSL but the lines to me won't handle it. Sad thing is, the MUX box that will handle DSL is 1/2 mile away and they ran new line from the box through the neighborhood 5 years ago and didn't upgrade it.

My DSL does not fail even when the power goes out. During the hugh blackout a couple of years back, I was on the edge and power went off for 5 minutes a few times. If my DSL fails when it recovers, I get a new IP address. I run a client script I wrote and every 60 seconds it checks to verify my IP is not changed. It also logs every change and the time. During the blackout I never lost my internet connection and my local web server never went off line.
