It is really unclear whether we would have invaded Japan. I am not an expert on this part of World War II. We could have simply isolated Japan--they were not doing very well at that point. Hitler was already dead. Certainly, if we just wanted to end the war quickly, why wouldn't one nuclear blast have been enough? Why two? Why not wait a few more days to see what would have happened before dropping the second bomb?

It seems like you are implying that because the Japanese soldiers committed so many atrocities, their civilians deserved to die in a nuclear holocaust. If you are not suggesting that, fine. Other posters suggested the same thing.
