I don't believe making (legal) guns harder to get will reduce violence or crime - they'll just select another tool. England banned guns and their crime rate went up recently and they have rightly deduced it's drug related - stop the drugs and you'll reduce all crime. Making guns harder for honest people to get won't effect the crime rate.

I support background checks but the loop is not closed if someone becomes ineligible for gun ownership - we can't determine if they own guns. This suggests we need a registration system - which is a privacy issue most Americans normally have huge issues with - but for guns they might support such lists.
