Never ran across such a person myself. Care to name names? When they intone mantras in place of argumentation, can't or won't explain their positions, can't or won't parry contrary positions, and get befuddled, defensive, or anxious when faced with them, it manifests more like brainwashing than persuasion/comprehension.

[EDITED] Surely you are not arguing that the defects you mention are unique to his listeners? They could be applied to large segments of partisan believers of any persuasion, and with regard to just about any topic, such as evolutionary theory, stem cell research, wars, abortion, education, and others. Sorry, I have to go.
