In my country, the trees are taller than the deer. The most careful driver can have one just out of the shadows too close to avoid a collision. I've seen pronghorns run right into the side of a car. No trees anywhere.

I've been monitoring the discussion of trophy hunting versus meat hunting. I'm a meat hunter myself, but I enjoy a good rack as much as anyone. I wanted to mount my best, a 6x7 bull elk, in my 9 foot ceiling family room. It was so out of scale that I didn't like either option of hanging it at waist level or putting it on the floor. I put it out side and let the elements claim it. The meat was good, too. That was a long time ago.

Trophy hunting for the sake of trophies is not all necessarily bad, either. For example, trophy elephant hunting in Africa was replaced by ivory poaching because the natives had to earn a living somehow. Ivory poaching, unlike sport trophy hunting, is uncontrolled and very destructive of the herds.

<<Ish, If the grass is that high, the county is not taking care of business.>>

Prairie grass plots that are on private property. It doesn't take a deer long to cross that 3' of mowed grass. Same with corn fields.

I've seen deer hit coming from a plowed field in winter. One runs across the road and the next ten stop at the edge of the road, then just when you think those deer are waiting and you get there, all 10 try making it across the road.
