I did that update last night. The computer did not shut down properly, but seemed to boot up OK, and I've had no problems.

Thanks for the warning -- I think I was offline so maybe missed it. I just turned Automatic Updates off, just in case.

But we still have three computers with Windows 98, so I have spares . . . . no matter how messed up one computer is, I can still access the Internet and get info on how to fix.

I do sympathize with the frustration. Especially with no Internet access! Everyone in my family has become addicts.

My older son was picking fights with his brother and went to bed early out of boredom.

When the other son and I fixed the Internet access, we didn't tell him, as a prank, and he did not take it well (being offline for several more hours)! I was contemplating not fixing it at all, but need it for work.

The initial version of the latest Windows security update was buggy and retracted. Current patch downloads are supposed to be ok.

Mine did an automatic Windows update this am and now I get a sys error this after noon.

My computer appears to have navigated that upgrade ok. At least for the moment. It did the upgrade overnight and left me with a restart message this morning. So far, so good.
