my problem is that Quicken has lost the ability to communicate with banks over the internet. It last worked last Friday, and I've made no changes to my system since then, other than downloading some Windows updates.

I've had Windows updates turned off since I got this computer two years ago. It was three months ago when I had some problem where I was told by several people to download the updates, including Service Pack 2, so I did. People said most fears were overblown.

Shit.

There is no way that not being able to connect from within an isolated application should require a reformat. It likely has to do with the TCP/IP configuration within Quicken.

Some of these recommendations by tech support are a complete joke!
