The problem here is that in those ancient times when markets were free, bonds used to recoil at the thought of accelerating inflation and surging oil and gold prices.

But today, the bond market could not care less about inflation IMHO. The bond market is used by the powers that be as an instrument to keep sundry bubbles afloat.

The idea that fixed income investors should get a fair return on their capital is as dead as the dodo.
