Sidney, as you know, Christ's teachings ushered in one holy Church of Christ. One teaching that I believe was fulfilled with the return of Christ in clouds in 70 A.D., as he promised "in that generation when you shall see the armies of Rome surrounding Jerusalem". As to a future temple I see none.

I cannot find the verse but I believe that verse tells us that the abomination of desolation was the Roman standards of the eagle that were placed on the temple walls creating an abomination to the Jewish laws and holy place. I have not heard the one about pigs being slaughtered in the temple.

For those who see this in the future I understand that a temple must be rebuilt to fit the futurists theology.

James

The third temple is an abomination because by building it the Jewish people are once again rejecting Jesus to go back to the Law. What an abomination that is too to God who gave us His only Son as a sacrifice for our sins so we can be saved. Rejecting Jesus' sacrifice and the 2nd Covenant. And "desolation" because there is only death in the 3rd Temple and the Law. Desolation. And on the Holy place in Jerusalem where the 2nd Temple stood and very close to where Jesus was crucified, and where Abraham went to offer Isaac to the Lord.

excellent post, sidney. nice insight. the abomination is a title for antichrist. he is the abomination that maketh desolate. of course desolation is:

O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! Behold, your house is left unto you desolate. --Matthew 23:37-38
