I guess you hit the nail on the head. My color printer is HP and I've never had luck with generic cartridges for it. Actually, I have the HP color printer and also a Canon BJ-200 black printer. I only use the HP if I need a colored chart, which is a few times a week. Otherwise, I just send the stuff to the BJ, which uses a black cartridge that I can refill myself. After several dozen refills that lasts about a year before it just gets used up.
