I agree with him. Treason has gone the way of shame, but he's part of the problem.

He assumes patriotism is tantamount to tribalism or nationalism.

Instead of calling for a return to more traditional values in time of war, he calls for a new value, but fails to mention what it might be.

He's at as much of a loss as any one of us.

At present, loyalty to one’s home society is no longer a given; it must be won. Conversely, hating one’s own society and abetting the enemy is common. Traitor, like bastard, has lost its stigma.
