Why is it the Hegde funds that are always accused? Hedgefunds have to borrow the stock and then short.

If there is any funny business going on it is the big Wallstret firms stock loan departments that are making the shares available to short.

This is what I thing is happening in Overstock.com. GENIIZED.

both hedgefunds and overstock are the victims is my guess.

Same shares lent over and over and over as regulators look the other way..

Stockwalk had borrowed millions of shares of a GenisisIntermedia Inc., a California firm controlled by noted Saudi arms dealer Adnan Khashoggi. When the stock fell dramatically in value, Stockwalk sent millions to other firms that had borrowed the stock from Stockwalk. But the firm that originated the loan, Native Nations of New Jersey, defaulted on its obligation to Stockwalk.

That left Stockwalk about $60 million short and the government came in to rectify the problem. Stockwalk lost its clearing business, MJK Clearing in the process. Court records filed Tuesday show Native Nations had a net payable balance to Stockwalk of $114.2 million on Sept. 24.

Federal officials are investigating possible criminal activity at both ends of the lending and borrowing chain, but not by the firms in between, of which Stockwalk was by far the hardest hit.
