Kinky should shake things up, which is all to the good. Texas politics have traditionally been, well, colorful I guess is the word. And corporate influence has always been a problem, which is why it isn't legal for corporations to donate to campaigns. But when the Republicans swept in, corporate interests is all there is any more. Yeah, on the campaign trail they pray and pepper "Jesus" and "family values" through out their speeches. They only rarely speak of doing what is best for Texas, and when they do it is usually on issues that aren't addressed on the state level. As a result, most people don't even bother to vote, except for those who thrill to hearing the candidates talk about Jesus and God and don't really care what they do when they get in office. So we have legislatures that spend all of their time on redistricting so the Republicans can send more people to Congress, and then have no time to do their primary job, which is to set the budget for the next two years. So instead of weighing options, they just did an across the board cut to balance the budget and went home. But they got the redistricting done, thus serving the national Republican party and screwing the people of Texas. Oh yeah, they also passed some legislation to help insurance companies. And to shield the oil refineries from environmental legislation. After all, both have been hurting...
