How do you know that our government is not doing some of what you suggest?

I would suspect that it's not all conventional military force, and "to hell with other approaches", that are at work in Iraq. Perhaps a blend, wouldn't you think?

Give the people waging this war a little credit! ;-)

Attempting to use conventional military force to "remake the middle east," however, and in the process attempt to change the culture and religious beliefs of ancient societies is not a proper or effective use of force. Ed

That's the "realist" argument.

Who's doing this in Iraq?:

" ... and in the process attempt to change the culture and religious beliefs of ancient societies ... "

I as understand it, our troops aren't forcing Friday Night Church Bingo and Happy Meals on Iraqis. They still have their culture, their Allah and feelawful take-out stands. Now they just get to vote for someone other than Hussein, the guy who was a threat to that region and its neighbors for nigh on 25 years.
