I wouldn't sweat it Jim. In the "ownership society", I imagine both of our tax breaks are untouchable, certainly the mortgage interest deduction. When I was renting, it made no sense to me that people richer than me got to deduct most of their housing expense - it seemed very regressive and unfair. Most Americans probably think the the mortgage interest deduction is guaranteed in the Constitution by now. They'll only give it up when their cold, dead fingers are pried off it.
