The point is that something needs to be done. The specific ideas I marked down may not be the best, but what we are doing right now is going backwards, not forwards. Bush had an opportunity to get us moving on reducing our oil consumption. With national will, we could have reduced our oil consumption by at least 50% within 10 years. The technology already exists. But Bush squandered that opportunity. Instead, the oil cartels are getting rich, our enemies are richer than ever, and our country is suffering economically and is less safe.

That was a collossal failure of leadership.
