Generally, when political/economic spectrums are discussed, the US is seen to be politically right and a very capitalist country.

Yes it is relatively capitalist compared to most other countries. Its relatively socialist compared to our countries earlier history. Government spending used to be about 12% of the GDP in the early 20th century, by 1947 it was more like 22%, by 2004 about 43%. If you add in the cost of regulator compliance the percent of the economy controlled by government probably exceeds 50% Therefore "It already has been socialized quite a lot." Sure if its 50 something percent in the US, and 60 something in most of the EU, and that or more in many other developed countries than we are in that sense relatively capitalist, but we have still become a lot more socialist than we used to be.
