Just a thought on Saddam/Iraq: the Sunnis hate the Shiites and vice versa...maybe they want a civil war?? while Saddam was still there at least they could agree and find common ground on how much they feared and loathed the guy.. so the country "functioned". Now that he's gone we have this sectarian war which has no obvious end point. I wonder if anyone in Washington did a cause and effect study on this outcome. History is full of dictators who allowed fractured/economic disaster countries to function and exist through brute force (Stalin; Mao; Hitler etc.)
