Anyone with eyes can see the writing on the wall. Alternative energy is quickly being refined to the point where it will dramatically reshape our energy choices. Plug-in hybrids, 250 Mpgs? Why not? Hybrids will probably just take over the auto market in coming decades as gasoline continues to increase in price. Plug-in hybrids are just one step away from full electric cars (which is why the oil industry fears them). Charge you plug-in hybrid with solar electricity. Why not? Make your own BioDiesel for under $1.00/gal. Why not? The main reason we couldn't do any of these things in recent years has been technological limitations and price. However, that is quickly changing. The technology is there. The prices are coming down. Now it's just a matter of having the will to implement these evolving alt.energy technologies.
