The author points out the the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR)problem, regarding Power Amplifiers, and the possibility
that some kind of pre-distortion will be needed to control
input power requirements (from battery or equivalent power supplies)

Both the 802.11 (Wi-Fi) and 802.16 (Wi-Max) standards specify
a "Pre-Whitening scheme", which answers this problem.

This "Pre-whitening scheme" is one factor in the W-OFDM (Wideband OFDM) patent , owned by Wi-Lan.
This patent is currently being disputed, in a Canadian Court,
by Cisco.
