Well, as I said, I wasn't there so don't know what was said.

If it's on the line of "Jane, you ignorant slut" then I would say that it's inappropriate because it too closely parallels Saturday Night Live. ;^)

It seems to me that in any interpersonal interaction between real human beings, there are areas that are clearly black or white, and then there are the fuzzy areas.

And we probably won't argue about the black or white, but about the fuzzy areas. At least, I hope so.

But as for what is "appropriate" based on "judgmental or religious overtones" or undertones or semitones, that seems to me that you are assuming that everybody perceives overtones, undertones, semitones, and so forth, with as much sensitivity as you do.

Whereas, in reality, you, Rambi, personally, are probably far more sensitive and perceptive than the ordinary person.
