You don't have to be an elite to have a patent. I know lots of people who have written their own patents and had them accepted. NOLO has a nice step by step book. The problem with inventions is that the vast majority of them can't be made commercially viable in the timeframe of the patent or, for that matter, ever. Some of the patents are absolutely hysterical and the pictures that come with them are even better. Go to: patft.uspto.gov Type in a word or two, say, toaster and you get the marshmallow cooking utensil. Unfortunately they don't seem to have uploaded the drawings. I'm really interested in this one. " Marshmallow toasting utensil and method Abstract Marshmallow-toasting utensils that include a handle and a wire assembly with at least one wire segment extending from the handle. In some embodiments, the wire assembly includes deflectable wire segments with end regions that are biased to a spread-apart configuration.
