Futher on in the same report they do mention the steam issue; apparently the energy losses in moving hot steam long distances is a greater problem than moving energy via electric lines. Also, they are talking about building the biggest nuclear reactor in the world, so they might be exporting electric power from Alberta as well as supplying the tarsands projects.

An interest sidelight is the idea of using the uranium mines themselves as sites for disposal of radioactive waste. Also, the population is almost nil so there's nobody with a back yard to object to building such an enormous plant.

Alberta could become the Grand Cooulee and the TVA of North America as well as the new Texas.
